I love Wargaming!

Wednesday, 24 November 2010 ·

A bit of discussion for you tonight. We all chose to take part in this hobby for a reason. I suspect it wasn't to be spat on in the street or stripped of any cash, spare or otherwise every time you walked into a Games store. So why did we choose to become Wargames "Geeks"

The floor is yours. Tell us why did you become a Wargamer...

I started so long ago I can hardly remember why I did. The main thing I remember was the old balck and white images in White Dwarf and Realm of Chaos. They summoned up such fantstic imagined situations in my mind, thats what really got me into wargaming.

I was only going to get 5 to have on a shelf; but then my brother got all his collection from the loft (lots of classic models) and I thought I'd get stuck in after a few "trial" games.

I loved the modeling aspect the most and when I was a kid had a group of friends who were into it. I havent really had people judge me for it, may because when I first did it I was in a group of friends, and when I was older (26) after a ten year gap I got back into it I didnt care what people thought!

I still love the painting and modeling the best and I love collecting, but having started on the tourny scene. My gaming has improved loads and Im just really enjoying the hobby at the mo so thats why I stick around it.

I started by accident after seeing a set of Space Wolf models for sale in my local hobby shop, must be 20+ years ago now. I was into HeroQuest and D&D so I was on the right track. What hooked me was the models and the amount of background infomation. Since then I have collected and collected but never really played many games. The local games-workshop store is great for the younger generation but personally I feel out of place in there now, thats why I joined Hulls-angels. Even though I've only been there once I received a warm welcome and felt right at home. For me I guess its the social aspect and the gaming side that has hooked me now. I dont need to win win win. As long as I have a good game, I learn something new and I'm playing against someone with the same interests as me, that's what is important to me.
Its a bonus that games-workshop models just seem to get better and better with time, I just wish the same could be said of my painting and gaming.

i used to play Heroquest but wasn't aware of GW until i went to Senior School when 2nd ed Blood Bowl came out - started from there really and got in to Imperial Guard and the rest is history and a severe lack of savings!
